Ipswich Spirit - A Good News Story

The Spirit of Ipswich

Mr Bill Gayler from Booval Ipswich, came into the Metro Hotel Ipswich International with an article from the local newspaper about the Gala Cocktail event.
Mr Gayler is 90 years old and had been reading the article and was so impressed that we are holding such event for the local flood appeal.

In 1946 the Toowoomba Premiers (All Whites) & Ipswich Premiers(Tivoli) & Brisbane Premiers (Valleys) played a round robin to see who was the best club in South East Queensland.

Tivoli defeated valleys in the final in a night game played at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground.

This Blazer was presented to Mr Bill Gayler who played in the Bulimba Cup for Ipswich and went onto to become an Interstate referee.

Mr Galyer said “Old timers who know Rugby League will tell you the 1946 Tivoli team were the best club side ever to play in Ipswich.”

He has kindly donated for the raffle his players blazer and also a trophy ( boomerang) that was presented to him in 1960 after he was in the referee for the North Queensland v France in Townsville in 1960.
He will not be able to attend the Gala event as he will be in Melbourne celebrating his 65years wedding anniversary.
